Mission Critical Partners Acquires Black & Veatch’s Public Safety Consulting Business
Addition strengthens MCP’s capabilities to modernize critical infrastructure networks through increased IT support services and wireless communications systems
STATE COLLEGE, PA (January 7, 2020) — Mission Critical Partners (MCP), a leading public safety consulting and information technology (IT) support services firm, today announced the completion of its acquisition of Black & Veatch’s Public Safety (BVPS) consulting division. With BVPS—a unit of Black & Veatch’s Connected Communities business—MCP strengthens its capabilities to design and deploy reliable, advanced radio and wireless broadband systems targeting the public safety sector.
The acquisition also enhances MCP’s ability to provide a holistic view of the emergency response ecosystem and reinforces its position as the industry leader in providing independent, vendor-agnostic consulting services for public safety systems and operations. In addition to bolstering MCP’s consulting and IT support services, this acquisition helps to grow its geographic footprint while also expanding into adjacent critical-infrastructure markets including utilities, smart and safe communities, transportation and education.
“Mission-critical communications systems are becoming more integrated and interconnected, and clients need added support managing this complexity,” said Kevin Murray, MCP’s cofounder, chairman and chief executive officer. “Black & Veatch’s public safety consulting business reinforces MCP’s ability to provide independent expertise regarding mission-critical communications systems, and their professionals share MCP’s commitment to helping our clients improve emergency response outcomes.”
Black & Veatch Public Safety was created in 2015 through the acquisition of RCC Consultants, Inc., a nationwide consulting and engineering firm that served local government, public safety and utility wireless communication system operators. The acquisition accelerated Black & Veatch’s expansion into network engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work for public safety clients. Since then, BVPS has designed and/or implemented more than 200 wireless communications systems and more than 300 clients.
“The consultants joining Mission Critical Partners are well-respected and highly experienced within the public safety communications market,” said Fred Ellermeier, Black & Veatch Vice President of Connected Communities. “They bring a focus on modernizing complex networks and emergency communications systems, making them an ideal complement to MCP’s existing team of professionals.”
The acquisition expands upon MCP’s ability to serve the emergency response ecosystem, adding to its consulting and information technology (IT) support offering that also includes Athena Advanced Networks, which MCP acquired in 2018. In addition, MCP now will be able to provide existing BVPS clients with the essential intelligence needed to reduce cybersecurity risk and related disruptions to operations. Together, MCP and BVPS will be the leading public-safety-services business in the industry with the scale, critical mass and experience required to accelerate the modernization of clients’ aging public-safety infrastructure.
“Working with a world-class organization like Black & Veatch is a privilege for us, and we look forward to collaborating with them on future mission-critical engineering projects. We are very pleased to make this announcement and look forward to aligning on future opportunities to work together,” Murray said.
