Read Government Technology's article that discusses how the Nebraska Public Service Commission and Mission Critical Partners are addressing key obstacles to the rollout of statewide next-generation 911.

The article discusses how the Nebraska Legislature passed a bill approving the outline of the state's 911 Service System, Next Generation 911 Master Plan in 2018. As a result, they are using a five-prong approach, supported by five working groups, to overcome obstacles to Next Generation 911 implementation. Their initiatives include:

  • an RFP for contractual services
  • how to pay for a statewide system and reconfigure the state's funding model
  • establishment of policies and guidelines for PSAPs
  • minimum training standards and a statewide certification program for telecommunications
  • and aligning GIS systems
