Lower Rio Grande Development Council Selects MCP to Provide 911 Network Support Services
MCP will provide 911 network management and monitoring services that reduce the risk of unplanned outages and optimize performance
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (Sept 24, 2019)—Mission Critical Partners (MCP), a leading public safety consulting and information technology (IT) support services firm, recently was awarded a contract to provide communications network/system management and monitoring services to the public safety agencies served by the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC) in Texas.Public safety communications networks and systems are becoming increasingly Internet Protocol (IP)-based, making them more vulnerable to outages compared with legacy networks and systems. A secondary element of risk is that such networks and systems are more integrated and interconnected than ever before—thus, a network and/or system disruption at one agency can have widespread effects across an entire region. The objective of the engagement between MCP and the LRGVDC is to diminish the risk of network/system failures and to keep the 911 network and its supporting systems operating optimally.
“The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council and MCP have been partners since 2014,” said Kevin Murray, MCP’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We commend the Council for taking this proactive step to keep its 911 network operational and are honored to be able to provide additional support that will help to keep their public safety communications operations running smoothly with reduced risk of unplanned downtime, which will ultimately help to improve emergency response outcomes”
In addition to providing network management and monitoring services to the LRGVDC, MCP will also provide:
- Tier-one and tier-two incident support services via an MCP-managed network operations center (NOC)
- Warranty, end-of-life, and support contract status on critical network components
- Accurate inventory of all 911 network infrastructure
The LRGVDC is a voluntary association of local governments formed under Texas law as one of the state’s 24 regional councils of government (COGs). LRGVDC serves Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy counties, however, eighteen public safety answering points (PSAPs) are located within two of the counties (Hidalgo & Willacy) of the COG’s emergency communications/9-1-1 service area; they provide 911 call-taking and/or dispatching services to area police departments, fire/rescue departments, emergency medical services (EMS) agencies and the sheriff’s office.
