STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (September 28, 2018)—Mission Critical Partners (MCP), a leading public safety consulting and lifecycle services management firm, today announced the hiring of Jim Davis, who has the distinction of being the firm’s 100th staff member. As the demand to modernize the nation’s aging public safety communications infrastructure to better meet the needs of today’s citizens continues to rise, MCP continues to grow at a fast pace. In 2018, MCP’s team of professionals has grown 24 percent, and sits currently at 107 staff members.
"Since 2009, we have thoughtfully and purposefully built a business that has become the largest and most experienced team of independent, specialized professionals in the public safety sector," said Kevin Murray, MCP's Chief Executive Officer. Meeting this milestone is as much about the quality of our employees as it is the quantity. That quality enables us to serve our clients extremely well—and that's very important, because the mission really matters."
Davis, MCP’s 100th employee, comes to the firm after a 23-year career as director of emergency management and communications in Pittsylvania, Virginia. He has blazed trails throughout his career. He was one of the first in the United States to attain the Emergency Number Professional (ENP) certification, doing so in 1997. Upon arriving in Pittsylvania County, Davis witnessed the 911 center becoming the first in Virginia to receive wireless Phase I and Phase II emergency calls. Later, he shepherded the county’s migration from legacy 911 to Next Generation 911, with Pittsylvania County becoming the first jurisdiction in Virginia and the third nationwide to be fully NG911 capable.
“Many people in Pittsylvania County will tell you that Jim brought 911 to their communities,” said Kevin Murray, MCP’s chief executive officer.
Davis symbolizes the high-quality talent that MCP has accumulated since its inception nine years ago. Every subject-matter expert working on behalf of public safety clients from coast to coast can boast similar achievements. Nearly 50 percent of MCP’s staff members have first responder experience, and close to 40 percent have worked in a 911 center. The fact that so many of these “A players” have found their way to MCP is no accident.
The process begins with “Topgrading,” a structural approach to interviewing candidates pioneered by Dr. Brad Smart, who widely is considered the world’s top hiring expert. Topgrading enables the capture of critical details about the candidate’s background to include their education, key skill sets and competencies, achievements and failures, relationships, goals and potential.
After hiring, every MCP employee experiences a comprehensive onboarding regimen that not only instructs them on important procedures but also educates them on the firm’s core values— accountability, integrity, persistence, prudence and trust—which guide the service they provide to clients. MCP also invests heavily in continual training and continuing education designed to keep skills sharp and to ensure that personnel stay on top of emerging trends and developments in the industry.
